We (Australia) just today surpassed 3000 cases of the virus. A vast majority of small business traders such as hair salons, clothes stores, pubs, gyms etc have closed, and it is looking more and more likely we will end up with Level 4 Restrictions as New Zealand recently set. I still fortunately have work, surprisingly our stores have been doing about 40K above budget since the virus hit our shores (we are a home timber and hardware specialist)

Economically we are in a terrible position, so much worse than what we were prior to the Global Financial Crisis and the worst since we have had 27+ years of consecutive economic growth. The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has dropped Interest Rates to 25 basis points, as many other countries have, however unlike other nations our Interest Rates were already disgustingly low at 100 Basis Points (so, unlike other countries, this has had little positive impact). The government has been rather inept at realising that they needed to maintain budget deficits instead of surpluses to drive economic activity, and thus allow the RBA to raise interest rates in case of times of need such as now. Thus, why we have now had 3 seperate Federal Economic Stimulus packages, all of which (imo) won't be able to alleviate much economic damage. On a state level, South Australia has been handling this the best (or one of the best) in the country, with the most testing done and quickest response with a State Economic Stimulus package

If you have any sort of interest in economics, or are Australian, I would highly recommend giving a listen/read of the RBA's leader Governor Philip Lowe's speech; it is incredibly interesting, and a great example of a reassuring and positive speech in spite of a dire situation: https://www.rba.gov.au/speeches/2020/sp-gov-2020-03-19.html

Wherever you are from, follow directions from the World Health Organisation and your local/federal Governments. Though death rates are low for under 40s, it is vastly important to take every personal measure available to prevent spread of this virus; unlike SARs, it is incredibly easy to transmit, and the less people that spread the virus, the flatter the 'curve' of hospitalisations and furthermore deaths will be. We need to stem the tide of cases for as long as possible before a vaccine is discovered

New Zealand 27th march: 368 cases 0 deaths, we have been in level 4 lockdown for 1 day (only essential business operate like supermarkets and gas stations). interesting to watch how Australia has handled even tho they have many more cases. many people have lost their jobs and are living off the dole (Unemployment benefit).

Personally I can't believe we are willing to slaughter many generations' worth of economic progress because China yet again spewed out a somewhat deadly virus. Add kung flu to the f*cking collection of viruses that come out of that sh*thole. And of course predictably governments are starting to use this as a reason to inflate their own power, in my country our PM and his party tried to implement a policy that would literally allow them to unilaterally spend as much money as they want to for the next two years. Doesn't sound as bad unless you know that liberals kinda have a tendency to love spending a sh*tload of coin.

Let this pandemic be a lesson to every country on the world stage, especially to anyone who still believes in open borders. I think somehow if we recover relatively unscathed from this in the next year or so, speaking of most developed nations in particular, we should hold China to account for this. Whether or not they bioengineered the virus, I tend to believe they didn't but a lot of people do, China should be held to account for seriously downplaying and hiding the existence of the virus for economic reasons. Government incompetence is about to cause the deaths of thousands of people yet again.

you are correct about all the blame being on China, but more specifically it is the Chinese communist party. What makes me sick is all the propaganda they spew about "having no new cases" and that "chinas quarantine efforts are being praised globally", all the western media sites are whores for these kinds of headlines.
