i have been on this forum for 4 years and this community have existed since 2013 and yet no one made a move on this?
Char please consider this as an opportunity to make new players and give the rest of the OG's a push toward this games development.
You should add "daily, weekly, monthly".
And i also believe that the ghosters need way more credit so you should also make some new official ghosters leagues because tbh if you don't do anything now, this game will "officially " die in a year or so.

This game needs changing asap.

 

What do people imagine a dead frhd is like? Literally 0 players? Most "dead" games do just fine as long as they have online servers and some sort of a forum. It's not gonna get much worse than this.

 

almost dead i guess. people keep joining and then leaving. all these “goodbye” tracks make me depressed rip. i was looking back at some of the old forum posts and its nice with more people i think. tbh you’ve probably revived this forum alot i’d say.

 

A year ago this place was awesome.
Many great authors, contests, the challenge spirit. This place was a joy dammit. We want that back where I wouldn't mind spending 6 hours of my day here.

 

Yeah that sounds great and I believe that it's possible to at least partially revive this community with a few good updates. I wasn't arguing against the main point of your post, I was just curious as to why people keep saying the game is going to die soon. It's already as "dead" as it's gonna get. There's always going to be at least some active members and even new ones.

You're not special with the whole "do this or FR will die" thing, If you're not liking the state that the game/community is in then move and find something else to spend your time on.
Also if you think that adding a leaderboard feature will change anything then you're drastically wrong, I have quite literally never looked at that tab until now and would not base any trackmaker's merit off their leaderboard score lol.

 

This is a cool, neglected af game.
To add more fun here needs change.
My point is drag more players for competition and make new players like the game.

 

char wants to add automated oa. i think this is a great idea and will really make people interested in this game again. OR. or it’s because the mods are too lazy to review people’s requests lol

 

If they weren't lazy the community wouldn't have died in the fist place.

There are a bunch of factors at play here....

Attrition
Every year someone writes this post as players they know are leaving the game. This is a natural attrition of players as they grow up and move on to different games.

Competition
The games market is incredibly competitive and free rider is up against all of those other games for a slice of attention.

Platform
Schools can block web games. Every day another school blocks freeriderhd.com , and there isn't much we can do about it. https://www.freeriderjumps.com is seeing a large amount of players. One of the reasons for this is that it probably isn't being blocked.

Cost
It costs a lot to develop a game. In order for us to add a feature to the game, it requires a lot of our time for very little return. In an ideal world , we could create a free rider community edition where multiple developers can work on it. This may be possible in the future. I'm not the one to make that decision tho.

OA
The purpose of OA was to minimize spam. In the early days we saw people submitting 20 tracks a day, and they were all spammy tracks. This is also why the portal is an OA feature. It's a very jarring feature that has to be used appropriately. The issue is that we have 20 people a day asking for OA, and it takes up way too much time to approve. As of right now I don't know the correct solution to this. We could have a nomination feature. The problem is that it would require players to actually vote, and players are generally not going to do that. We could just have it based on subscribers. If you get 25 (random number) subs you unlock OA.

 

I hope you get us new developers asap.
Because the ones now are all kinda dead.

My mate “Wilkie02” suggested different bike colours and also made a post about it with pictures. Surely it wouldn’t take long to implement. I don’t see how it would ruin anything either

 

I think a large part of why Free rider is dying off is both the development(no offense char and brett) and the community. the game definitely needs a update, and if there was a community held one, were riders could choose the changes, that would help significantly. The community is the hard to explain part. When I first joined I felt it was like the "inside group" were you needed to be here for a long time to know what is happening. Going into this game it is hard to understand its complicated history if you were not there for canvas, or the other free riders. Another part is it is intimidating to see perfectly executed ghost and not know how they did it or how to spacebar. and spacebaring is its own problem in itself.
