Well, fellow troll, it wouldn't be far off to say that a liberal is a person with liberal ideologies.

so individual freedom is the no. 1 thing for them.

this umbrella does cover being open to different types of people, yea, but thats a very simple way to look at it.

now, why would a liberal ever support leftist policy? it goes directly against INDIVIDUAL freedom.

I believe you are quite confusing liberalism with libertarianism. If you believe I am wrong, then define each term side-by-side.
    Also, liberal ≠ leftist.

then why would a liberal ever support leftist policy dumbo, this is literally all ive asked

    edit:
and just do you dont burst into a fit over this, ill give it a shot of similarities and differences.

liberals do keep rights and freedoms of the individual as a top priority. sort of in a "do whatever you want, so long as it doesnt bother me or others around you" mentality. the meme here is that to be liberal is very vague, and the term firs many sub-groups.

and libertarian, they keep individual freedom as their top meme, but in a different way to liberals. these guys just dont like regulations on stuff and dont want to be ruled over.

to boil the little i wrote down, liberals want freedom from government (as in given by it), and libertarians want freedom through as little governing as possible.

Hope you're not confused anymore!:thumbsup:

Nice, I got some finnish blood and i love saunas :)

    Libertarian-ism

Anyway going off of what you said.

Let's look at some Latin Roots shall we?

Liber - To set free from something -- or freedom in general..

arian - one who practices or believed in something

Simply put, Libertarianism is the attempt to deliver freedom with little government interaction (A democracy) -- This is like a big umbrella category, and underneath we have Liberals and Conservatives

So lets break it down shall we?

    Right Side

Con - To agree or joint with.

Ative: Relating to or serving to.

Republic - where power belongs to the elected officials

an - Relating or belonging to

Simplified: Right Side people agree that power belongs to the official elected people. (So this way good people are elected so we can run a safe country.)

    Left Side

Liber - to set free from

al - one who believes in

Demo - A government run by people instead of elected officials (or very large governments)

Crat - Somebody who has power

Simplified: Left side people want to be set free from a government and the people should control what happens. (Which isn't safe nor effective IMO.)

First of all, liberals and leftists would get along because they are both on the left side of the spectrum, so a liberal and leftist would probably agree on plenty of things, including government healthcare and social issues.
Secondly, I hope you don't think I was actually confused on definitions. I know the meanings quite well and I was simply playing along when you thought you could clearly define them.
For the most part, you're right but you're missing out on the true key aspect of modern liberalism: equality. Not personal freedom. That is a tenet of liberalism, but it's nowhere as near as important to liberals today. Leftists may take liberal ideas and advocate an authoritarian version of it, making them more extreme and quite distant from libertarians as you mentioned.
Hope you're not confused anymore!:thumbsup:

well **** u got me there damn sheesh how will i recover

yeah arent you the mastermind who confused nouns and adjectives
googling **** you already know smh

    personal freedom+equality=equality of opportunity
    leftists want equality of outcome

no leftism is going directly against their base values i thought u have a grasp on this stuff

Lol I didn't have to Google anything except for the definition of "liberal" which I already knew.
Here's the thing Noob: Leftists do believe in equality of outcome, but they also claim to believe in equality of opportunity. They are so confused and mentally challenged that they actually think those two can coexist. Thankfully, it seems we both have the same stance that equality of outcome is an APPALLING doctrine and shouldn't exist because equality of opportunity is all we need.
So yes, people vote for things that go against some of their base values, but they don't even know it.

Ok, so we agree on that, but I'm saying that in the grand scheme of things, people vote for others that share similar beliefs. And in terms of leftists vs liberals, they have MUCH more in common than things contradicting.
