Musicians' thread

I've noticed how many composers and performers there seem to be scattered around frhd, so this is the place where we can congregate I suppose : )
You can put up your work, or performance, or whatever; arrange collabs; request pieces to be played and recorded; or just talk about music in general.
Perhaps if this thread becomes something big there might even be a contest one day, who knows.

Edit: Any chance of us uniting and becoming a FRHD band? (lol)

 

I used to play the trumpet for less than a semester in 4th grade, never continued after that

 

Dude, really? I used to play the trumpet as well : ) Did it in the town band for about 4-5 years before I quit. I still have 2 trumpets at home lol. One's a really battered, weather-worn stagg that kinda still works, and is much easier to reach high notes on, while the other is a pretty much unused B&S. Really only ever played that one for concerts haha.

not really good, just knew basic songs and were good at those, really wished that I had time to actually play songs on it. I only played in like one beginner concert and we played basic songs. I currently have a trumpet I haven’t touched since November.

 

Oh yah and in 5th grade I learned Rudolph the red nosed rain deer on xylophone

anything you learned recently? I enjoy more of a ragtime sound than classical, so I've been working on some rag pieces.

 

Ye, I like rag as well. Haven't been looking at sheet music much for it lately, rather trying to make my own lol. I have a recurring motif and a chord progression and trying to flesh it out currently.
What have you been working on then?

 

learned the peanuts song "Linus and Lucy" a little while ago, and I just started "10th Avenue Freezeout" by Springsteen.

Anyone else here in a band? I'd like to know some of your experiences in all areas like studio, promotion, performing, etc. My band & I only have one song out at the moment but performing is so fun. We pretty much take any gig we can get.

 

I used to be in a town band, but that's really not the same thing haha.
Studio experience: none, obiously
Promotion experience: almost none. I mean there were a few people promoting it, but I normally didn't join in. Once I volunteered to put some posters up for an event, but that was it.
Performing experience: loads. I think I was in that band from 2011 to very late 2015/ very early 2016. Man, are there a lot of stories to tell even in that short time period though. From 2014(?) I joined the concert band, which was a separate section of the town band not so focused on marching and field formations, rather playing classical, modern, jazz or whatever in theatre, or hymns in church etc. I liked the concert band much more than the marching aspect, but unfortunately couldn't choose from one or the other, only do both. Part of the reason why I left, along with some other factors.

I'm in my third year of playing the viola.

 

yes. I am in a band with some other people in my grade, we don't really perform anywhere except for the local talent show and other places like that. I play the piano, and we cover songs.
