Here is a survey. I'd appreciate honest and thoughtful answers, but feel free to answer as much of it as you want with as much writing as you want.

    1. What terms do only FRHD players use (such as “ghost,” “spacebarring,” … )?
    2. Do you feel like you are part of the FRHD community? Why or why not?
    3. Why do you play FRHD?
    4. Is there anything that sets FRHD players apart from those who don't play FRHD (besides that they play this game)?

You can also add any other comments you have about the FRHD community.
    Thank you for your time.

Wow, this is your second thread, tetrationiscool! I'll do my best to answer these questions.
    1. spacebarring, ghost, wip, ntbf, auto, generated, tube tracks, cancerous curves, bomb hop, squish
For some of these terms, other people do use them, but FRHD players use them in a different way. For example, "ghost" is definitely not unique to this community, but it means something different from what most people think when they hear "ghost." Additional notes about "ghost": It can be a noun or a verb. For example, "That's a fast ghost." and "Can you ghost this track?" Various forms of the verb "ghost" are used like "ghosting" and "ghosted."
    2. I do because I play FRHD, and I regularly look at the forum for FRHD.
    3. I play the game because I think it's fun. It's fun to play tracks (well, certain tracks), and it's fun to occasionally make tracks that people can play. The idea of interacting with what others have made in a videogame is pretty cool in my opinion.
    4. I'm not sure about this one. There's a wide range of people who play FRHD. I suppose most of them are young (early teens to early twenties), but that's the case with most videogames. There are friendly people mean people, skilled and unskilled people, people who play daily, those who check in every few months (although whether or not those are part of the community is debatable), track-makers, and track-riders. All of this suggests to me that besides playing FRHD, there's nothing that distinguishes the community from others.

    You're welcome for my time.

    My answers:

    1. I mean sometimes people think I’m out of my mind when I say the terms like “ look at my cool ghost” but to me it is normal.
    2. I feel like I am a part of it. As long as I wanna get along with people I feel it.
    3. I play this game because I like it and it is fun (even tho my friends say this is weird).
    4. dont Understand the q

Is there anything that makes FRHD players different from those who don't play FRHD (besides the obvious difference that one group plays FRHD and the other doesn't)?

(does that answer the q tetrationiscool?)

I didn't quite understand your response. Was it something like "Non-FRHD players think 'oh just make a track', but FRHD players think 'no, I wanna make a good track for once'"? (I'm trying to differentiate between FRHD and non-FRHD players). Anyway, thank you for your responses, and you don't have to answer it if you don't want to.

    1. I couldn't think of anything else apart from what you said.
    2. I feel like I am apart of the FR community, even though I don't talk on the forums regularly, I am an experienced player and have been here for over a year now. I have made good friends with players that I argued with regularly, I'm sure I will tick around in this community for as long as it goes. Even if the actual FRHD game dies off, I hope that there are still regular people that check up on the forums.
    3. I play FR because it's something to do on my device when I am bored from watching youtube or twitch, I now mainly ghost hard tracks and attempt to do good trickghosts.
    4. Something that sets FRHD players apart from each other is because there are different groups in the players of the games. Such as the different discords and different age groups. Also this may not be an answer to your question but some players can get carried away on the forums and think that they can get angry with no consequence, just because it is an online community and majority of players don't know who you are.

Thank you for making this survey, I'm sure a lot of players will take their time to answer the questions.

    1. honestly the same as what you said. your example pretty much nailed it.
    2. i only feel apart of the community when i see other's socializing in the game or i personally chat with people in the forums. and collabing too.
    3. my friend showed me the game and i thought it was fun. this game is also a platformer and i also like platformers. even if it is a bike.
    4. people that don't play free rider don't get bullied (jk jk) i can't think of anything. i do the same as all my friends do and they don'y play FR.

    1. ghost, spacebar, trickghost, trackmaker, OA, k's (track size), etc.
    2. yes. I've been here a while (though granted not nearly as long as a lot of other people), and have played the game a lot while meeting some new people who I'd consider friends.
    3. used to be ghosting for fun, but now it's more testing myself with trackmaking. the way the editor is set up (line-by-line placement) is very meticulous for someone like me because I feel I have to perfect every part of a certain aspect within a track before moving onto the next thing. it's super slow, frustrating, and has served so far as the barrier between me and publishing something I actually genuinely like, hence why everything I've published has either been grossly unfinished or extremely short (you could blame my impatientness on this too, though). but despite that, I've loved seeing how much progress I've made with both trackmaking and art in general. hopefully, you'll all be able to see this progress as well someday when I finally publish something finished ;)
    4. honestly the only thing separating this game from others is that it's small and tight-knit. it's not too hard to strike up a friendly convo with anyone here, and it's just as easy to bring up your suggestions to a mod (if and when you get a response/how often you're comments are actually received is a different story). the game itself is also unique in that it combines fun with art successfully (this isn't unique to frhd but all fr games)

    1. Nothing new to add except that ghost as we know it in frhd is an old concept. For example Mario Kart speedrunners race against their own PB time ghosts to improve their time https://www.mariowiki.com/Ghost_(Mario_Kart_series) But "a ghoster" and "ghosting" are both unique to this community.
    2. Yes. Lurking the forums and occasionally posting something is enough to make me feel that way.
    3. Just like in any game, I enjoy the progress I make. It's casual enough that you don't have to commit to a 40 min match, you can easily take a few days breaks without losing your skills, etc.
    4. Compared to 99% of the gaming communities out there, this is way less toxic.

    1. What terms do only FRHD players use (such as “ghost,” “spacebarring,” … )?
    - "hold up" "trick ghost" "char" <- amount of character in the code "collab" <- this is actually not a real word, just a short version of collaboration " - If you want a more in-depth look the FR words check this OG list http://trackmill.com/forums/index.php?threads/freerider2-dictionary.6419/
    2. Do you feel like you are part of the FRHD community? Why or why not?
    - I feel like i'm part of this community, well I hope I am because I can't assume others see me as part of this community. the main reason I fell this way is because of the attention my tracks get and how I am active on the forums.
    3. Why do you play FRHD?
    - its so addicting, people probably don't know this but I come on free rider and the forums at least 4 times a day. I play tons of tracks and love browsing the forums. I can't help myself, I love to see what others create. this is also the least toxic community i have ever been part of.
    4. Is there anything that sets FRHD players apart from others (besides that they play this game)?
    - there is one big thing I can point out: the people who take time on their tracks vs the people who post any track even their unfinished/bad ones. I think as you grow older in this community you change from the second point to the first, when i first started uploading I would upload tons of tracks even if they are bad or not finished (e.g: https://www.freeriderhd.com/t/54403-smooth-preview ) but as I have changed I have found that my standards for uploading has gotten way way higher, now you will only see me post once every 4 - 8 months not because i'm lazy but because I don't want to upload a crappy track (i'm a little lazy though) for example Pro_rider_ledgend/lowkeyy continued to upload unfinished tracks that are actually bad compared to someone like deadrising/Eli who ONLY posts high quality tracks. I have definitely changed from uploading unfinished bad tracks to having high standards
-age, you can tell a 13 year old apart from a 17 year old apart from a 9 year old

I would love to see cctvcctvcctv answers to this, he has to be one of the best members of this community imo

Sorry for the poorly worded last question. I edited my original post, so I hope it's a bit more understandable. I meant "Is there anything that sets FRHD players apart from those who don't play FRHD?" I wasn't asking about differences between FRHD players. Nevertheless, thank you for your response.

    1. The ones I can come up with have already been said, but a “stig” is one that comes to mind
    2. I did when I was Hola123 but I have since become less sure. In my opinion, everyone who contributes something interesting to the community on a regular basis is a part of the community. I guess I am by that logic.
    3. I play the game because I enjoy drawing and enjoy making people have fun with my tracks.
    4. Like many games, frhd has a unique community filled with people who play the game. Over time, these communities gain their own unique personalities, and you won’t find another gaming community that’s the same as this one.

    1. although they aren't new but they were new to me since I ain't an american or just someone English or someone who speaks genuinely English during a normal day. but I learned things such as (Legit) and yea I can't remember the rest.
    2. I do feel i am a part of the community, but i also feel it's for the community to decide not me.
    3. It's hella fun! It might seem boring or "not fun enough" for someone who is new to the game but just when you learn the measurements and the abilities of your bike that can do, you get addicted immediately to it.
    4. Well, besides that they will get good in their grammer or learn how to communicate through the forums with people am sure they also get more more attention than other games out there and makes them better with their choices with words? Idk something like that.

    1. dunno, I don't really know anyone else who plays Free Rider anymore, (except a few) and they seem to only use is "Hold Up" or Auto.
    2. Yes I think i am a part of the community, maybe a small part. But (kinda) accepted.
    3. Cause I like to draw, and it is something fun to do instead of homework
    4. Most of us seem to get along, and many of the people are very talented in what they can draw/ghost. That is what sets Free Rider's players apart from other games.

    1. Pretty much what you said. Other terms apart from those used in the ghosting community would be blob or brush, perhaps genning etc. Brush isn't really used the same as it is elsewhere because of the glitch tracks.
    2. Damn yeah I do. I remember when I first came on I was making a big effort to be popular and to rise to god tier level in the community. I didn't realise how small and welcoming the community was back then and so it's hardly surprising I'm here now in hindsight. All you have to do is be reasonably active. Still it lead to quite a few cringy messages at first. I also thought that ghosting a lot of tracks would improve my ghosting ability in general, but here I am in top 50 by points and I still suck : )
    3. Idk, it's just generally a fun unique sort of game. There's a lot of variation in content of this site, at least for me the aesthetic doesn't get old. Owing to the fact that the devs are pretty lazy, and to the relative size of the community, updates to the game, or just new tracks from quality makers, are few and far between, giving you more time to get hyped while you're waiting. Honestly if the community wasn't a thing I'd probs be far less active. Plus there's the archive now, so I feel kinda obligated to stick around to document events.
    4. Well, we have Nicholas-Opuni : )
In general though, I wouldn't really know, mostly owing to the fact that I don't really visit other communities. I've visited a few other forums as a guest, and they've let me see that this is a pretty swell place. As gun says, this really isn't a very toxic community. In quite a few other communities I've come across, it is a bannable offence to bump threads. Often, the rules state if you must bump the thread, you must have express permission from a mod/admin. In this community we don't even follow some of our own rules, especially where alts are concerned. Another thing is that the majority of users here must have a lot of patience to become reasonably well-known, not just for the incessant ghosting you're going to have to do, or the countless hours spent on making tracks, but just managing to overcome the steep learning curve in this game. FRHD (or just the fr series in general) isn't really something you can get good at overnight. Hell, I've played this game since 2012 and I wouldn't consider myself quite a master of it yet. So yeah, something that you're going to find in this community that's relatively different from others is a ton of very patient people, willing to put a lot of effort into this game with little to no actual return, apart from gratitude and admiration from others. It is a "free" game after all.

    So here we go:

1 - Ghost (ghosters, ghosting, etc.), spacebarring, trickghost (trickghosting), featured (yes, it's not really an unusual word, but I feel that "featured" here is something that means a status, something that is really in the spotlight. In other cases, I think people would use other words), trackmaker (trackmaking), OA's, wip, hold up... Also, Noob and Backtwice used to say "tick", for the minimal unit in the game's clock.

2 - People are usually nice here... I'm 4 and a half years in the forums and despite I didn't do much about the trackmaking community, with almost no participations in contests, I always enjoyed making tracks, and I know some people like my trials by the feedback I receive. No way I should have 400+ subs. And also, in the ghosting community I think that I had a little bit more influence. I have featured ghosts at least since 3 years ago, I have participated of almost every relevant ghosting contest around here and I managed to do well on it. Both of DblU's contest, both of speedy__XD's contest, VER'S contest, Acid_Bubble's contest, NFRL and a lot more, always making the top 5. I'm here since the beta times so I watched many legends come and go, rise and fall, and I always felt that I was part of that. Also, I know I got respect from some great ghosters, like Backtwice, spruce, Sidewalk and mR..A, who once mentioned me as one of the names of this "3rd generation" along with many others awesome riders (the 1st one is people like mR..A, 2nd people like Backtwice, Noob, darksmoke11). Also, along with the respect I think that I got maybe a certain level of friendship here with people like Skeeny, IsaiahRed, and also spruce, Sidewalk and many others. I also once in a while leave a comment in some threads, like Official Featured Ghosts and some talking about spacebarring or trick ghosts, because I like to leave my feedback and motivate people, but also show my opinions about some topics.

And also, the fact that if you search my name in the search bar on the FRHD site you will see over 10 tracks made for me, makes me feel really honored and part of the community. There's people that found my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or even my user on this forums and said that they were "fans". This isn't something to brag about, but it's something that makes me happy, because at least for some people, something that I did here mattered. At least someone enjoy some of my ghosts or tracks. There's at least 4 brazilian players that have talked to me saying stuff like they enjoyed that I represented well our country here. I think I may have had my "top 5 ghoster" time with people like WrzodX, Ficus, Cryogenic, Pityboy a long time ago, and I know that I'm not that good now, but I feel like I always did something cool from time to time. Like being almost one of the best in the early days, doing well in the competitions even when I didn't even stand a chance (Like losing to Noob in the semifinals of FRHD World Cup or being the only one with a victory besides Noob and Backtwice in the FRHD World Cup 2), or the whole thing with Alzakhion, trolling many people and getting great ghosts, or beating Unforgiving almost at the exact same time that Backtwice, after years of no one completing it, doing a cool challenge from time to time and a lot of other stuff. I think that I tried my best to be someone in the communnity, and I never was the best, but at least I think some people will remember me.

So yes, I feel like someone from the community, because there was always some people that seemed to believe that something that I was doing was some kind of special. So, I feel accomplished. Love to all you from the community that supported me in some way!

3 - It was initially because I liked games like this, where you have to be creative. I found CR, then FR3 and finally FRHD and it's being a great journey. There's times that I thought about leaving, but I was really proud with the name I made for myself, and it felt good finding a game that I was actually good at. Also, the feedback from people in many tracks, or in the forums about ghosts or anything were almost always positive, so I always felt that I should continue to ride.

4 - Although we have many players on the game, I think that players who are active in the community feel that they have some kind of voice, because there isn't that many people on the forums. It's crazy that users like Stig, mR..A, Max and others are players like us, but have some power in the community. Usually it's not that hard to contact the developers or moderators, and some of people's ideas and wishes that were discussed in the forums were added to the game. When I commented on the forums that I didn't have Official Author, Char commented that he never thought of gaving me because he was sure that I had it. And that's cool. They usually show us that they are accessible, and that's dope. Char even has some tracks, that's a nice thing to have. We discuss about "spacebarring" that is been attached to this game's structure, that in other games people might just accept and do nothing about it. I'm not against the technique, but it's cool that we have room to discuss. This community usually feel more like a social network with friends than really a forums from a game. Ok, most people aren't actually close to each other, but there is this feeling that people many times actually care a little bit about people here. We had here real life relationships, real life friendships, some losses, some good or crazy stories told and it most of the time feels real.

And, this is a game after all. So it is kind of an escape for many. I remember one dude that had in his description something like: "I can't ride with my legs so I ride with my fingers", which is crazy. Even with some kids that I have seen being great fans of some players, saying nice things everytime that they had a chance to talk or be friends with them, as had happened to me, you can see how much this game means to some people.

I also remembered when a guy that was top 25 on the points leaderboard passed away, and his sister felt like sharing it here, because this game was his favorite game to play. That created a really sad thread. So that's what I mean. This happens in almost every game, but I feel like because this community isn't that big, that we feel more the things that happen. At least it's kinda like that for me.
