1. Get off the grid, only use it as a safety net or when you need to keep something consistent over a very area amount of track e.g. This is a track that uses the grid well.
2. Take time to make tracks, good tracks can take a couple of days at minimum to make up to a year for larger tracks e.g. 1 hour vs 1 year for the same track maker
3. Play your track a minimum of 100 times this serves 2 purposes, a track should be fun to play if you are bored of a track after playing it 100 times its probably not fun to play and it also ensures that your track is smooth and that people can't find shortcuts and that people going at various speeds off jumps still are able to land and continue the track, this makes it fun to play.
4. Detail, if you are afraid of detailing imitate somebody else, but DO NOT TRACE as this will prevent you from developing your own style. Many people believe this is copying but it is really just flattery and enables you to see how other people do things and how you can potentially do them yourself up to the point where you have developed your own style and you can go crazy and do your own thing.
5. Ask questions, learn, practice and don't give up.
