To make this 100% clear, I am NOT suggesting powerups. Power-ups, like boosts and gravity, affect the player when touched. I am suggesting Track Features, which I define as objects the player can touch to affect the environment. An example of a Track Feature would be a T-Switch - if a player touches a T-Switch, a section of track would move to another location. The section of track would have to be selected and a duration (how long it takes to move from one point to the other) would need to be selected as well. However, it would make for more interesting tracks. Imagine an auto where the track moves, or a level where you have to keep up with the track. Another Track Feature example would be a C-Switch - if a player touches a C-Switch, a section of track would change color. What this means is selected black track would become gray and you could pass through it, and selected gray track would become black. These Track Features would make more innovative gameplay and allow for puzzles (e.g. correct switch order), thus widening the scope of Free Rider HD.
i would say when you are editing and making tracks there should be a copy tool. u just click it then hover over a certain area of the track so it copies it. then you can paste it down on other parts of your track. this will save so much time by not having to recreate little details like rocks and trees. u can just copy and paste them
I agree with this 100% - there should also be a select tool so you can apply things to a certain section of track (e.g. copy, track features) and so you can move that section elsewhere.
I don't like this idea because then certain track elements would be too repetitive, like in an autogen sort of track.
that would not matter because if you are making a forest track or mountain track or something you need it repetitive
