Just to start, I know there are a lot of music threads but this one is different. Proceed. This is a question (mainly) for the people who live in America (or even you popular music in your country). How do you think about the popular music these days? As in the trending music on Youtube, Itunes, Soundcloud, etc. I believe most of it is trash mainly because Taylor swift, Rihanna, Harmony 5 (Maybe something different), Kanye Weast, Drake, and 50 Cent. Mainly because I listen to Hopsin, A$ap mob(All), Bad meets Evil, Trademark Da Skydiver, and most of 90's hip-hop. I would like to see who else agrees with me.

All current music is considered bad by those who came before. 90's hip hop was considered some of the worst music at the time. Just listen to what you like to hear, and don't be upset that it isn't the most popular thing, there is room in the industry for every genre. While I don't like any of the artists you listed as bad ones, a greater amount of people do enjoy them.
Just my opinions, alt/indie rock is making a come up though.

I'd love to say I agree... but most alt/indie rock these days is just watered down from actual alt/indie rock and packaged for people who don't know any better. It's taking what's appealing about these genres and commercializing it, defeating its whole purpose.

Oh well, at least Radiohead just released a great album...

YES, modern music is mostly pure trash. The worst part is, as much of a fan of music as I am, I have to pretend that award ceremonies don't exist because the only people who win any awards makes processed sonic money instead of actual music. I feel bad for those who really put effort and passion into the art, because they don't get the recognition or finances that they deserve due to Justin Bieber sucking up all the money with his "music", or Miley Cyrus acting slutty since modern society thinks the performer is more important than the music. Just a result of the obsession that people have with celebrities, I suppose.

A lot of amazing bands have failed in the past because of crappy pop artists, so while I'd like to be mature about it and say, "it's alright, there's room for two", I really can't. One of my favorite bands, Mr. Bungle, dissolved because Red Hot Chili Peppers used their star power to kick Bungle off of a festival and essentially robbed them of money and new fans. Awards ceremonies do the same thing, along with the fact that pop stars prevent any actual good musicians from getting a spotlight. After all, nobody wants to put original music on a commercial when Rihanna or whoever has a dull "song" that's about love.

I think mostly what's popular today isn't too good, but you just have to look in the right places for the right music  Like Raptor already said, Radiohead released a sick album this year, as did Kanye West, RHCP, etc. I agree with you on what's popular, but in no way does that mean that anything that's made today is bad :)

I believe everyone has a fair chance at reaching out to people nowadays, with social medias and music platforms. I don't think that major pop artists are taking up space and robbing others from stardom. I just believe their music is less appealing to the big crowd.

Most people who hate popular music today are hating it because it is popular.

You can like both. Atleast accept that it has had it's peak, and that people are into other things now.

I do, and I love it. I used to listen to the popular music and liked it. But then I realized that there was so much better music choices out there.

I mainly hate how music that does not have enough talent in them is attracting the most views. If you look back over to the 70's to the 90's, their music took a while and it is amazing. Music changes a lot tbh, so I guess you could say this pop music won't be the most popular music within 10-20 minutes.
