To complete my idea, im gonna have to find a way to code the track code rather than draw it cause it could take years.

I feel like this is cheating, but I'm intrigued. Hit me up in the PMs - I want to see how you plan on doing this.

What do you mean you aren't going to draw it? Autogen isn't allowed.

I mean i'm not going to draw every single line it takes to completely fill a large area to make it look like the night sky.

Hmmm, I will consult with the other judges

Just adding in my thoughts: You should do it yourself or try something else unless everyone else can. Not everyone can use the code to draw in the lines themselves, thus making it an advantage for TiMartin

To be fair, im writing the code myself, so its still all my own work.

Yup, but balance how long writing the code would take compared to how long doing it yourself would; this is mainly what is unfair

Yeah sorry TiMartin but that's unfair and is considered cheating. Plus, completely filled in stuff never looks great, I'm sure you can do something much better

Sigh, i always reget telling people the truth.
p.s. What do ou mean filled in stuff never looks good, haven't you ever inverted the colours on Universe III, that is similar to what it was going to look like, a bit.

I don't understand how this is unfair for TiMartin. It's not like he's the only one with access to a computer. He's using his resources. Chances are the language he's going to use is completely open for everyone to use. Just because someone doesn't know how to use it doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to use it himself.
I'm mostly playing devils advocate, but it's still a good point.

Everyone has access to stuff like transparant windows as well and some people can generate art. because its possible doesnt mean we accept it.

The thing is, this is a drawing game, not a coding game. The site and the contest are intended for creative artists. Coding is very creative and interesting, but it's not the point of the game. Max brings up an excellent point as well. Sorry, the vote was unanimous in the Judge PM.

Lol once again, just playing devils advocate. I don't disagree with you.
Another good analogy would be just because athletes have access to performance enhancing drugs, doesn't mean they should be allowed to use them.

Just thought about this a little longer, and I take back my analogy.
TiMartin said the only reason he wants to use code is to complete a mindless task - colouring in a night sky. Performance enhancing drugs improve skill, however his code does not improve his skill in any such way.
Now, if this competition was based on the speed in which you drew the track, you could say the program provides an advantage.
However, this is not the case. For all we know, TiMartin can have a full time job and a family to tend to, yet he can be competing against someone who has nothing better to do than sit around all day working on his/her track. In this case, his program would level the playing field. Then again, the opposite could be true and provide him an advantage.

Once again, just playing devils advocate.
I agree with the judges' decision just based on the fact that this is a drawing game, so drawing should be the only thing allowed.
But lets be honest, if TiMartin kept his mouth shut you guys probably wouldn't have noticed the difference in the end anyways. ;)

Also, sorry again for filling this thread with content unrelated to what the thread is for. I enjoy this friendly argument. Exercises the brainz and stuffz.

Performance enhancing drugs don't improve skill. They simply increase the person's ability to do something. I could take all the performance drugs I want and still suck at football for instance. There is a time limit so it does give him an advantage

NOt sure if I am going to join or not, I will have to read some poetry, see if I can find something, then i will let you know.

As for the coding aspect, I completely respect your decision to ban the coding due to the fact that this is your contest, but I look at it this way: I agree that this is a drawing game, not a coding game, but I don't consider filling in a background drawing. If he is solidly filling it in, it isn't really drawing, but more of just mindless, repetitive mouse clicking. Seeing whether or not you can fill in a background doesn't test creativity or drawing skill. If it were my decision, I would allow it (obviously not my decision) for backgrounds only. Making a program that automatically creats trees or rocks, etc would not be fair though
