FRHD Official Contest Entries

Okay, so. I just viewed the contest entries released over the past few days and I am just... in awe. Many of my good friends and upcoming track makers have done some incredible stuff with this contest and it makes me really proud to say I know these people and am a part of this community. I'm going to comment on some of the more impressive ones I just viewed (didn't play through em, don't have the time right now!) and give my two cents on how I think you guys have improved or just in general made me say 'wow'

In no specific order:

zwinxz - yoooo AJ this is phenomenal. The amount of space you used and the composition in this is amazing, not to mention that your detail was so neat it was on par with some of the best stuff I've seen on this site. Ingenious ideas in there, very much represents your typical style but you absolutely astounded me with your neatness and drawing in the factory. Great job man, I'll miss having you around if you're truly leaving!

Foundations - Amazing storyline / plot, as I've always seen in your tracks. Your characters are great and your artwork is really creative. Most people go for a scenic approach to track making and you really defy that standard with the fact that your tracks tell a story, and this is no exception. This will be amazing once finished, it's crazy that you did something so intricate in a shape people were complaining was 'too large' for the time limit and yet you got so much done on such a scale. Can't wait to see it finished, I know it'll take a while but don't give up!

codrey - Extremely consistent. It plays very well zoomed in and is very fun to explore. I love the ride and I love your fairytale-like style even more. It's always fun playing your stuff and I'm definitely going to ghost this one a few times. Great job dude.

THEend - I really really like your style, it's super unique and it's never halfassed. I can definitely see it's unfinished but it's such a large track I can't blame you. It's sparser in some parts than others but nonetheless the quality remains the same. I love the idea too, reminds me of Aztec ruins or something, the patterns around the powerups were super cool and complemented them even though they're something lots of people try to avoid using. Creative track and I can't wait to ghost it through.

Max007x - I love this. Your planning and use of black lines in this piece is absolutely f*cking phenomenal. I must say it's likely my favorite entry, and I think you did an incredible job despite the time limit. You draw creatures so well, it's super cool.

WheelieMaker - Your best detail by far. Love the stages the track goes through as you play it and it's so well done for BMX playing. Your style is so extraordinary and on such a scale it's really quite impressive. I love how you proportioned things and used blank space to your advantage. I feel like the second half of the circle was the way it was because you ran out of time, but the first half is so well done it kinda makes up for it. The little details are what make your levels so great, from the drips of water to the little hot air balloons. Great work.

Good job everyone, I like the stuff that was released within the last week or so. Congrats on the features, those of you who got them!

Chill. Fairly certain I gave my input on yours already. It wasn't overlooked, just not one that I was criticizing because it wasn't posted in the past week. I was doing all the recent ones in a bunch, and yours was released a month ago.

I put it together in a few tracks. It's not too good.

 

Definitely looks unfinished but I like the layout of the beginning of the cave and the last trial part. If it weren't so blank in other parts, and the parts you had done tied into eachother better it could make some more sense. I feel like the level of detail in some parts really threw off the balance but nonetheless I think if you stuck to a theme it could be pretty solid. Took a little too much time trying to fill the shape rather than building up a theme, y'know? Also the sprite is dope asf, good scale and use of contrast

e; I was going for different themes because I didn't have enough time to stick to a tight detailed cave so I did other things to fill the shape.
