So I have been playing FreeRiderHD for almost two years now. I Love this game to death and have decided to start putting way more time into it lately. As I have gotten better, easy plain old jump tracks and smooth lines started to get boring. I dove into the world of trials, playing them all the time and even beginning to make my own. As tracks got more difficult, I got better and pushed myself to overcome challenging tracks. Along with this, I began to notice a pattern within FreeRiderHD:

Many very challenging or technical tracks have gotten horrible ratings and votes. Even when authors put loads of time into detail and presentation, if the track is remotely difficult, it seems to get tons of dislikes. I have experienced this with some of my own tracks, and even some of my friends such as GamingHunter feel this as well. I am sure many of you reading this may have felt or noticed this too. There are many people out there who dislike a track just because they can't beat it, just because it is hard. They completely disregard the effort put into it by the author. A track should never be labeled "too hard", or even hard enough that you "dislike" it. If anything, you should just "not like it". There is a difference. It is often times the difference between a 60% rating and a 90% rating on a track. There is a solution though

I know this has been proposed by multiple people and has been argued many times, but you should have to beat a track to rate it. That is the only way you can give a fair judgment of how you liked it. If this hate for difficult tracks continues, would even think to go as far as proposing the removal of the dislike button completely, leaving only the option to "like" a track or do nothing at all.

Propositions like this shouldn't be needed though. They are drastic and unnecessary. They are an extra burden on the staff. More angry riders to deal with, and more work for Char and Eric and Stig . So why don't we solve this ourselves, as a community. I challenge every rider out there to start judging tracks fairly. View them not by their difficulty, but rather by their style, by the effort the author puts into them, by the detail and thought behind the lines you see. I dare all of you reading this to begin a new age of FreeRiderHD!

(Okay I may have gotten a little too inspirational now, but seriously, listen to me)

If we had to finish a track in order to rate it, a lot of really good tracks would in fact get less ratings than they already are receiving. It would also end up forcing the trackmakers to create shorter and easier tracks, rather than forcing the riders to become better :(

we need a better ratings system, there is absolutely no doubt about it, and i know it's on char's agenda to have it replaced.
if you guys have more ideas for a ratings system, i bet Char would highly appreciate them all (post them here though, instead of clogging his inbox lol)

false, if we didnt get likes or recognition for all the hours we spend on tracks, there's no point. you dont draw for 8 weeks straight to just get 10 plays or whatever. if anyone says they dont care, they are lying.

well ok maybe you do and a few others but for the most part the best don't really care that much, as you see how they don't ask for likes and such

hahaha lies, if they didnt care for recognition why would they even upload it in the first place?
why people make detailed trials that no one can complete, is just idiocy in motion. if you asked any member on this site; "would you want 1000 likes, or would you want 10 likes", you can bet your ass on that the amount of people who answers "i dont care", equals 0.0000000000000000000000000%

just because they dont ask for likes, doesnt mean they dont want them. it just means they're no longer a shameless 10 year old. :p

yes of course if you asked most members on here if you wanted 1000 likes they would say yes, because most on here are stupid,
if you asked me i would say "probably not", and if you asked most others of the long time players they would say "i don't care" so you are wrong.
all i care about is the art and challenge of the track i never care how far it gets with silly little likes, to be honest if every track i made got like -100 and 0 likes i would not care

Boi. I would want 1,000 likes rather than 10. You're stupid if you would rather have the 10. It's like would you rather have $10 or $1,000, it's a no brainer.

The question isn't "would you rather make a noob track and get 1000 likes or make a good one and get 10" it's simply would you rather have 10 likes or 1000 likes.

It is not a matter of getting likes in my mind, it is a matter of getting plays. You don't care if someone likes your track or not, you care if people notice it. No one on FreeRider wants to put weeks of effort into a single track and only 12 people actually play it. The point is that likes affect how many people see your track. If a track has a horrible rating, less people will see it and therefore less people will play it. If a track has a 90% rating, it will show up more and more people will play it. This is the entire concept behind sections such as Trending and Hot and the suggested tracks on the side of the screen. We all as authors want the recognition of having others play our tracks, otherwise, we wouldn't bother. I for one do not care about likes, I care that people see my track, and that they see my art. Likes make this happen.

If they said no I would be concerned with whether they are able to function on a day to day basis.
That's all you had to say in the first place.

I agreed with you up until "You should be able to vote only after completing". If that was the case Ness would have 13 likes in total lol
I kind of agree with TP, idgaf about likes and i dont make tracks for likes either. I make them for myself and more than anything the community. I would much rather hear Maple say "Your detail is getting better each time you draw, great stuff!" and offer cc to me than get 1000 likes. Because at the end of the day, likes are just numbers on a screen. Im certain that a number of people would at least partially agree with me. Its the journey that matters, not the end result

Anyways, I think just scrapping the dislike button in general is the way to go, that way if you dont enjoy the track you simply dont vote and move on in your life

so if i remove 95% of your current likes/plays and subs on your database accounts (all of them), and restrict your tracks from ever coming on newest/hot/trending/featured, you say wouldn't care?
another relevant question is; if i stole your best track now, uploaded it on another account, deleted it from yours, and claimed it as mine? would you still not care? since you dont care that people play it or give you recognition? (maple would still know you made it, so you would still get his cc tho) :)

dont say no because that wouldnt be honest and you know it as well as i

and yea, we should scrap the dislike button, but we cant just only have the like button either, that would make it hard to separate tracks by recent popularity etcetc :/
