Too much riders are getting official

codrey I have 91 subs and I believe my most played track is only 6.5k while the rest sit around 2-3k each and I had an account made for me here lol
I would lose official author before you do

I both agree and disagree with Char's points and concerns. People (with the exception of Eli) move on and so a team dedicated to assigning people with official author would require numerous people to be constantly active/want the role. If we look at the tracks that are trending or hottest, the vast majority are tracks that have detail that would have been impressive 8 years ago and now its just the same really basic b*tch regurgitated spam over and over again. Yet they're popular because all people have to do is hold down the up key and the occasional Z to complete it. What really irks me is that, in my personal experience, people dislike my tracks because they don't follow that trend and whats even more mysterious is I cop the hate when I don't make the track myself, I just detail it in the context of the remix contest.

So a sub/played system honestly doesn't sound like the best to determine who should be official and who shouldn't. But what I really feel like we're arguing here is that those official authors aren't as good as the guys who are making tracks with really impressive detail and more challenging to complete. In which case you would want to implement a title above official author.

In reality as Char said, it doesn't really matter because all official author really does is stopping you from being restricted by the coins, etc to submit tracks. What you're really looking at is a PRO status.

This would be ideal af and many agree, however char and eric backflipped on it i believe bcos the rank would become 'elitist' and exclude, altho i dont really see how thats any better than automating it and kulling off decent players. Elite Author should be a thing and should be a prize in the OC, however Ive heard nothing about that for a year

 

The 'Elite Author' rank would give something to aspire to. If we look at TrackMill and their implementation of PRO user status, I think everyone strove to make better tracks/improve their skills in the hopes that they would one day achieve that rank, I know I certainly did. Though the rank did adopt some form of a 'celebrity' mantra it did not exclude them from the rest of site. If anything the only thing that may result in exclusion would be the implementation of a private, 'Elite Author' forums which to my knowledge but can't 100% confirm is what I believe TrackMill had. As far as ego trips go if you make the title of Elite an extremely hard goal I feel like you would have earned that little bit of the ego boost. Personally I haven't met anyone on this site that I feel would all of a sudden when given such a status would use it as a warrant to belittle others which is probably what the devs are worried about.

You might also want to consider keeping the Elite Author title reserved in the forums/community to avoid what happened to TrackMill where as soon as a Pro posted something it got instantly up voted whereas a normal user who would post the exact same thing would see it buried amongst the clutter. Alternatively is we're really against this whole notion of creating an Elite status. Go the other way and create an author role that has the same perks as official author does just without the fancy title and that can be our skill gap between those who push the boundaries and those who like to create generic tracks.

But to be honest a cost to post tracks is kinda ridiculous, so I understand why everyone wants to be official.

 

I am confident that the need for recognition comes first to the upload cost, which comes with the motivational side-effect to do better. And it's not like people can't afford uploading. As I recall it's like 2 coins-ish?
The reason why people complain on "noobs" receiving the title is simply because it brings down their image of themselves as a special and reckognized trackmaker, since they are now associated with people of less skill and experience.
As Char mentioned though, the standards will be based on user stats, thus elevating the standards from what it currently is (staff and possibly mods will be giving official to "dead authors" who arent qualified through the system I bet).
