What's it like to go to the USA?

Hi everyone! I've got a question to ask here, what's it like to go to the major cities in North America?

I was wondering what it would be like because I've always wanted to go to the USA and get a job in NYC or something because the city lifestyle is very enticing.

I've only been to America once, stayed by the John Hancock tower in Chicago and it was truly a great experience. I want to go back but I'm honestly scared... I was born in the UK as a Muslim and with everything that's gone on recently I worry that locals would be somehow afraid or cautious of me and I may be a victim to discrimination because of my complexion and my ever growing beard... (my profile picture was the last day I shaved lol, last august(not my choice to keep one rn tbh)).

Personally I despise ISIL, and fail to wrap my head around what they actually believe in, because it is so distorted from true Islam and I tear up sometimes watching the news just because of the bad reputation that these savage disgraceful tyrants bring on to my religion and the repercussions that follow because of the inhumane acts they execute.

I think there have been 3 or 4 from my town that have actually joined this organisation and one actually was a few years older in the same school which I attend. The main cause these people join ISIL is because they do their own research on the internet and come up with their own conclusions on what to do which is often completely wrong. There are many people on the internet that claim the time for the 'holy war' has come and they prey on the vulnerable young muslims like myself to try and brainwash them so they can recruit them for their movement. (Information gaps/Information failure for any budding economists out there!)

So, to link it back to the original question, do you think that I'd have a hard time in America because of recent situations or are the majority friendly people that realise muslims on the media for acts of terrorism are much different from normal people who call themselves muslims.

You wouldnt have any trouble being muslim in the big cities, they are fairly liberal and accepting of anyone......

I have only been to NY once, and never to the city, but i<3LA.......LA is like NY, except the weather is awesome, they are 5min from amazing beaches, and the people, instead or rushing around and gettting nothing done, are super laid-back and making all the big discoveries. Course im a little bit biased bcuz my GF lives there. ;)

But yeah, i mean you might have a hard time in the midwest area where the majority of people are white and get their education from the news, but in LA or SF or NY, you'd get along just fine. Where i live, in Portland OR, is majority white, but for the most part really liberal and accepting of anyone. Just with a population of 2.5mil, im not sure if that exactly qualifies as a big city. :)

Yeah, well if you want to move to the USA, you dont have much time to ponder over it, because once President Trump gets into office, all ur great ideas go into the trash.

I was thinking about trump tbh, but if he wanted to impose a rule on temporarily banning members of a certain religion from entering the country, surely he would have to go through congress where it would be a lot tougher to get the bill passed and surely couldn't someone just pretend they weren't a muslim or something? I thought that was just for publicity?

American politics is sh*tty, so stay away from it. Also, stay away from fast-food because in cities there aren't as many regulations for them; hence food will be even more unhealthy.

If you plan on going to NYC, don't tell people that you're a Muslim because people are incredibly racist there (not everybody but many)

But you should come anyways, because there are a lot of opportunities and you'll be fine. I suggest moving to the Midwest, especially Minnesota because traditionally everybody is friendly and generally accepting to Muslims.

If you're worried about the politics side of things, should Trump get into power, then I'd recommend staying in the UK because there's only Britain First who despise Muslims and they're generally frowned upon, so you'd do just fine for a couple of years! ;)

Yeah, well he probably only has like a 5% chance of ever getting it done.........whatever.

Here is Trumps logic: Not all muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are muslim. We arent being politically correct, we are protecting America.

He probably thinks since congress is Republican he can get whatever he wants, but the reality is different.
haha, i guess he has a different impression of the midwest that me, but i can see Minnisota.......id steer clear of N.Dakota/S.Dakota Omaha/Desmoines area tho..... know alot pf people from there and they are fairly racist and stuff

Britain First are generally located in the north of the UK anyway and I'm in the south, so I hardly see any racism or discrimination, guess I'm lucky in that sense.

Yeah I wasn't planning on moving to the midwest tbh, big cities are more my kinda thing and if they're ok, I shouldn't have too much of a problem. I remember watching a show on tv called top gear, they went to Alabama and got chased by rednecks cause of some pro homosexual slogan on their car, I'd quite like to steer clear of that lol:eek:

haha, yeah, well Jeremy, James, and Richard better stop making fun of the USA because they are now owned by AMAZON.

haha, ya, the southeast is like that too. I know a girl from Tennessee who said once they saw some gay guys in a Subaru and they chased them in their car and flipped them off and stuff....yeah, stick to the cities and coasts....those are usually the most diversified cities

I've lived in the US my entire 12 years of living. I haven't even left the country (rip)

If you ever come to Arizona, Phoenix is a somewhat decent city. We have a couple cool arenas, a SICK science center, and don't forget the Grand Canyon. My fellow friend CityShep has been here many times and loves it, on the other hand SOME people (@Eli) think it's just desert and generic cacti.

However, if you ever go to southern Cali, which I've been to around 10-15 times in my entire life and the only state I've been to outside of AZ, just expect better than AZ. In the southern area you'll find more k00l mountains, hills, and general cool stuff. I'm sure people who live there actually hate it and want to move, but I certainly would want to live in southern Cali. At least it's better compared to most of AZ rip

Also, what Ishu said about fast food

Fast food isn't the worst thing but it really depends on the state/area. If you're in a more semi-urban area you'll probably have a somewhat decent selection of fast food places. If you're in either an extremely urban city or a very poor area, you'll most likely get the same chains, but worse. For example, if you make the trip from Phoenix on Interstate 10 to somewhere in Cali, you'll land in Blythe at one point most likely, either for food, or to go to the bathroom. The Del Taco off of the interstate there is gr0ss. Their bathrooms are literally outside of the actual building and are stickier than a frat party, so beware.

IDK about the rest of the Southwest but i love west LA.........

Yeah, you can always go to Chipotle or In N Out or something cool.......you dont have to go to McD's or Burger King. You cant judge a city by its fast food....buy yeah, crap off the side of the highway is always sh!t.

Not really haha, I only eat something fast food wise like once a week. Also, don't beware of In N Out. Healthiest AND best tasting out of all of the fast food chains.
