Necessary Changes

These are things that I believe are undoubtedly for the better and nobody has any reason to disagree with. They are also relatively simple and probably easy to implement. I think these need to happen ASAP. If you disagree please let me know why. Also if there is anything I missed let me know.

1. Be able to search for author names on the database

• As of now, you can only search for tracks, not authors. Currently the only way to find authors is to link them in the comments or typing in the URL

2. All-Time Best Tracks Section (or whatever you want to call it)

• The featured track section is no longer as exclusive as it used to be. We need to recognize which tracks really go above and beyond.
• Just make a section and allow the feature team to do the rest.
• (Maybe feature them on the home page like canvas rider???)

3. Hidden Tracks

• Allow people to hide tracks on their profile. Make them private / link only.
  
• This will clear up a lot of the tracks that people regret posting, and will make for a better overall experience for everyone.
• It will also allow people to fix tracks that they posted that have bugs (by hiding and repositng)

4. Profile Customization

• Allow users to decide which order their tracks are displayed in.
  
• Allow people to showcase their personal favorite tracks so that they can get recognition for what they believe to be their best work. This will allow people to find better tracks much more easily. These should also be the priority for related tracks on the sidebar.

5. Favorite Track Button + Top Favorited Section

• This would let people quickly find their favorite tracks.
• Also put a top favorited section so that we don't have to rely on the top rated section. This would just be another (more reliable) way for people to find good tracks.

6. Thumbnail Selection

• Allow players to select their thumbnails (for old and new tracks).
  
• As long as people can't zoom in too far, it shouldn't be a problem. Often times the default thumbnail doesn't do a track justice.
• People should be able to zoom out as far as they want to and pan left/right/up/down.
• Zooming in should not be allowed to avoid spammy/misleading thumbnails.
• This would be another way for people to find good tracks. If a track is just all around bad or has no good detail, it won't be possible to create a misleading thumbnail. This will make the good tracks stand out even more.

7. Edit Track Descriptions

• This is pretty self-explanatory. Sometimes we just want to post a track and don't give much thought about the description. Sometimes there are typos or things we just forgot to add/never wanted to say
• Also, just about 90% of my tracks just say "is a Free Rider community classic track by iTzChucknorris" it would be nice to be able to change that (for everyone) ESPECIALLY when the track starts with the wrong bike because I did not upload it...
  
• It would be nice to be able to change the starting bike on these community classic tracks too.

 

Agree 100%. Followed by this for me would to have all the glitches and bugs on the Chrome editor fixed, that's annoying as hell
Oh and more vehicles/gear would be cool as well

Imagine spending a lot of time and effort to get first place on a track, only for your ghost to be forever removed because the track author decided to delete the track and re-upload it to give himself the advantage of getting first place on his track. For that reason, I have to disagree with this one.
The rest are fine by me though, I've even suggested some of these myself and called #2 several months ago.

 

yup thats why you get to try again which tests on how much you want first place and it gives others a chance to get first place

 

I think Char a while ago was saying about hiding tracks instead of deleting them, so they wont show on the authors page but you can still access them thru a url

 

I guess that's up for debate, but wouldn't it be better for people to be able to remove their crappy tracks so that the overall quality of tracks goes up? People should have the option to delete or hide. Unless people are spending their time ghosting on a crappy or broken track, they shouldn't have to worry. He could also always limit track deleting. Maybe only be able to delete a track within 3 days of posting it or something.

 

Not really, in my opinion at least. There should really be no concern for the overall quality of tracks anyway, everyone can just stick to what they like after all.

 

yeah i guess it doesn't matter but maybe at least dissociate the track with your account completely? like have it say uploaded by anonymous and then have it completely removed from the random tracks

 

If they could manage that, but still make the tracks show up in random tracks, I'd be alright with that.

 

yeah honestly its probably unrealistic for that to happen. i guess just hidden tracks would be fine and agreeable for everyone.

 

I agree with all of these. After I finish the mobile etc, we might be able to knock off some of this.

We would probably make it so that you can still link to the track, but it won't show up in public listings.
