Communism is government where all property is public and all the nation's profits are equally distributed. People work for the betterment of society, with little to no personal gain.
Socialism is more individual based and it's more of a philosophy than an institution.

Tl;dr: communism is where the profits are distributed equally regardless of the individual's status and socialism is less communal and everyone is motivated to do better for personal gain rather than the community gain.
