Gonna be brutally honest with you, my life wasnt too good the year before my parents' divorce. There was lots of fighting, drinking, screaming, and crying. At first I thought my life would be horrible, moving to a new area and all, visiting my dad and such - but it was actually a lot less stressful once we settled in.

My dad wasnt ever really in the picture when they were together, either. He worked weird hours and only really hung with us in the mornings and on weekends. I was a little too young to realize the intensity of the situation, but my dad's alcoholism took the family to really dark places. It's actually kinda nice to be able to drive thirty minutes and spend a weekend with him and his girlfriend, and there's far less tension and anger built up around everyone.

Just last month was his ten year anniversary of being clean of alcohol. I'm really proud of how far we've come and actually how much better our lives turned out. It seems horrible at the moment, I know, but divorces happen for a reason and I'm sure things will start turning for the better. Keep your chin up and remember that you're surrounded by people who love you. ;)

i had the same problem. me and my dad used to do everything together, but my mom wanted a divorce because he kept coming home late at night and drunk, so when they divorced my dad moved across the country and i have been crushed ever since. jroles get ready for an emotional roller coaster. visitation will screw you up, then there's the new boyfriend, and sometimes you will feel like crap, but you are not abandoned or forgotten or unloved. just keep moving forward.

Its better to live in two houses than a house divided.

my parents got divorced when i was just three years old. my first ever memory was me and my dad playing with matchbox cars on the floor of my living room while my mom and my sister watched tv. this was just a few weeks before they got divorced, and i was confused why they never saw each other as much
