Dec 5th - Welcome + Update(s)

    First off thanks for all the feedback so far. After many months of development, FRHD has only been available to the public for about a week and we are holding off any public announcements until we make sure we have things running smoothly. We will likely look to spread the word a bit more next week since nothing major has turned up this week, just in time for the holidays!

    Already this week with help from the community that have found the game and given feedback, we have made several fixes / improvements:

    [bugfix] - replays would break in some cases when pause was used (we didn't test that use case extensively)
    [bugfix] - increased the length of replays to allow for saving of some of the longer tracks
    [improvement] - improved sharpness of lines at zoomed out levels, we may be able to get further improvements but will take a bit more investigation / testing which we will look into at a later time
    [feature] - server side validation of best time scores (still some bugs to work out but that is close to being complete)
    [misc] - lots of other miscellaneous changes for site performance and game this week, also lots of time spent talking with players

    Plan for remainder of the week and next (unless some major bug / issue comes up that needs our attention):
    • server side validation of race replays fully functional with admin tools to remove and/or update players race
    • player notifications both in-game and email
      • you will be able to disable / enable notifications by type from account settings
      • first set of notifications will be for players that have a time in the top 10 and are passed
      • this will give us a framework that we can extend on at a later time, some possible ones include
        • when someone mentions you in a comment
        • race challenge invites
        • game updates
    • mobile "tap to start" instead of game starting immediately after load, bring in line with desktop
    • mobile race from track leader board capability
    • enable hiding / showing big left menu to small left menu at all resolutions (player suggestion)

    After all that, we have one major task planned for the racing aspect and that is racing / challenging friends, we will talk about that more in a bit but if that was enough to spark some ideas let's hear them!

    Once we get the per track leaderboard (world) and challenge racing implemented (which should be this month) we will focus our attention on the track creator and campaign. With track creator prototyping done so far, we should have something to show in January.

    I am personally really excited about the track creator as there are lots of improvements that we can do in that aspect of Free Rider. For all the "Community Classic Track Authors" your feedback and access to early betas of the track creator when we are in development will be encouraged, we want to make your dream track creator with your help. :)

    Auto breaks are something that has been looked into a lot. And its simply that FRHD is based on the original free rider games. Canvas rider had slightly modded free rider source code. numbers were changed. We tested our autos with Free Rider 2 and 3 autos, and they passed.
    Althrough a lot a work was put into the canvas rider autos. We believe people may need to just re create them / edit them to make them work.

    Are you using an iphone with iOS7 ? If so, this is actually an iOS7 safari issue, that sadly is out of our control. Many html5 developers have been complaining about it. I agree , it is annoying.

    Free Rider HD is actually set to the same frame rate set as previous Free Rider and the clones. It is simply that it is performing better than those, and thus runs faster. I honestly believe it is something to get use to.
    With regards to enjoying the detail and the tracks themselves. I think designers will need to design tracks based on how this version plays. I agree it is faster and people may miss detail, but maybe that is where slowmo powerups come in? Put slow motion powerups where you want a player to enjoy the scenery.
    (Maybe we could also introduce a bike that is a big slower?, just an idea)

    This goes the same for how checkpoints currently work (keeps time ticking). Track designers may need to think about how difficult there tracks are, and how long someone will take to complete them.

    Is there no way to turn speed down, without reducing the performance? (Perhaps it could be an option that makes each author able to choose at which speed their tracks should be played in -slow -medium - high)
    Slowmos and slower bikes would not be a good solution imo, as the players will be used to faster speed, and therefore slowing it down will eventually become irritating. Like when you've already tried to complete the track 15 times.

    And yes i'm using ios7 :/ the autos arent a big problem to me anyways, but i thought id give you a heads up in case you werent aware :)

    I had the same problem, it's not the swipe, there's an an invisible line on top and bottom of the screen that deactivates full-screen when you tap there. Try only hitting the top of the buttons and it should work, we could look into moving them up slightly as well.

    The buttons on mobile should be a bit more sensitive IMO, sometimes I find myself trying to lean back or forwards and it doesn't respond.

    Just realized this works on mobile. So cool! That Draw Rider app was really sensitive and I didn't like it. I don't know who made it, but this seems like it has potential. Especially if you can make tracks.

    Questions for mobile: Is there a separate leaderboard for the mobile version? Would it be hard (I don't really know how this works) to make a leaderboard that's only visible to mobile users, and then a leaderboard that's only visible to regular computer users?
    Is there any way to zoom in? I think a zoom button would help out some.
    The buttons are also a little hard to control, sometimes when I press them they don't work.

    What phone are you using?

    I will play with some of the controls this week and see if i can improve them.

    niclauzon I haven't had the chance to test on ipod touch, but I can see if improvements can be made.

    That mobile feature is amazing. iPhone 5 iOS7 works perfectly. Could it be possible to set the "reverse" on the right side ? I mean, You never stop pressing up, so you can't reach reserve while pressing with left thumb.

    Yeah I got a weird bug on tablet i call it the auto Finnish glitch all I have to do is refresh the page and boom it gives me a random time...
